We awoke and had a spartan breakfast as we had no real cooking facilities in this location. This morning we headed off to Dr Harry Cooper's farm – “Arcadian Downs”. It was about a 20 minute drive out of Launceston. He has a lovely property with many animals and we were guided on a tour by both Harry and his wife Janine. The main business of the farm is a horse stud, but there are also cats bred, plus a large variety of chickens and ducks. We even witnessed the relatively rare event of a mare foaling during the day.
After the tour we had lunch at the Cluck Chook Cafe. It was very tasty. Dr Harry signed a few autographs for us and then it was off to Cataract Gorge.
Well, what an adventure that was! We had great difficulty locating the gorge, with many people giving directions to poor Chris the driver and most of them being incorrect! Once we finally arrived there we sat for a while while the kids played and then went on a few walks. Much to the children's chagrin, we did not ride the chairlift there, though it purported to have the longest single span of any chairlift in the world.
After the gorge, we returned home for a time and then headed out to dinner at a local Italian restaurant. While the food was quite nice, they crowded a lot of people into a small area and the atmosphere left much to be desired. That cost them our patronage for coffee and cake.
After dinner we returned home and Mark and Chris actually packed up leaving little to be done tomorrow morning. Then it was off to bed.
