We arose, had a light breakfast, packed the car and headed off to ascend “The Nut”. Harrison and Christine opted for the chairlift, while Mark, Campbell, Mum and Dad walked the path. It is a reasonably steep climb, but not that difficult unless you have a petulant 5 year old with you who thinks resting just slows you down.
We embarked on a walk around the top, which is quite hilly despite how flat it looks from afar. It didn't help that two young children did not want to walk all that way and had to be carried. Although the view was good, we were mostly focused on getting to the end and relieving ourselves of our load of children.
Thanks to the kindness of the chairlift operator, Christine, Harrison and Campbell shared the same car down, while Mark walked. Nanny and Poppy had made their own way and caught up with the rest of the group at the cafe at the bottom.
Before leaving Stanley, the crayfish lovers among us, purchased two crayfish from the seaquarium. It is a hands-on aquatic experience that we just didn't have time to do! There is surprisingly quite a lot to do in and around Stanley and we could have easily spent a week there!
We headed off to Sheffield, taking a scenic route sometimes. We stopped briefly in Wynyard for a quick play and some of us had KFC at Bernie.
We visited Table Cape and the lighthouse there, and also drove past a tulip farm.
After a while, we arrived at Kentish Hills Retreat just outside of Sheffield. We unpacked the car, Mum did some washing and we just veged and relaxed for an hour or so. The room was very nice and clean – it offered two queen beds and two bunks, and a phone line so we could have internet access again.
We decided on the local hotel for dinner, and after a short drive checking out the murals, we ate at the pub. The food was quite good – fairly standard pub fare.
We came back to the unit, and watched the remainder of Dancing with the Stars and headed for bed.
It is worth mentioning that two members of the party have come down with a bout of diahorrhea. Unpleasant at most times, even more on holidays. We suspect last nights dinner, which was at Herseys fish and chip shop, but since we all ate there, it is not conclusive proof.
